At work and in life, I strive to live each day with a thankful frame of mind. I realize I have so many things to be thankful for, and I am humbled by that fact.
Like many of you, I find the holidays to be the perfect time to relax and enjoy family in all its forms—immediate and extended, inherited and created. I know that family time sometimes can test your patience, but I’m challenging you to block any negative thoughts. In fact, block all thoughts of the craziness going on in the world (that’s what I call “the swarm”), and channel that energy into celebrating all that you are thankful for this year.
As I get older, I find myself viewing life through a different sort of lens. Simple things mean more to me now. I have deep gratitude for the everyday.
For example, the sweetest words I’ve heard all year were my children saying, “Love you, Dad.”
When I’m upset about something, I’m grateful when my smart wife says, “It will be OK.” She’s always right. I’m thankful when the doctor says to me, or someone close to me: “Your test results show nothing wrong.”
I appreciate when a client says, “Thank you for what you do for us.” I am delighted when my best friend asks, “Wanna go fishin’?” I’m thankful for the times I’ve laughed with my brother until my sides hurt.
I love realizing that my old jeans are loose in the waist. Life has meaning when I tell someone that they are on my prayer list. I am exceedingly grateful when I ask them to pray for me and they do so,
I realize just how precious true, good friends are in my life. I’m grateful that I recognize that and honor it.
And finally, I am truly thankful for having a God who loves me no matter what. The comfort of that is beyond measure.
We are all so blessed. We live in the greatest country in the world—a country where we can become whatever we want.
